The Sacrament of Confirmation
In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we receive God’s power through the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgment, Courage, Knowledge, Piety, and the Fear of the Lord. In receiving these gifts, we are called to use them for the greater glory of God. The Confirmation preparation at Transfiguration helps our young people to live their Catholic faith and serve others with the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit in their daily lives. Our program will share with you how to get the most out of the beauty and richness of our Catholic faith.
The Sacrament of Confirmation at Transfiguration
Confirmation is celebrated in the 8th grade at Transfiguration after a two-year preparation program that begins in 7th grade. Students receive preparation in our School or through our Wednesday night Confirmation program.
This year we are using a program called Decision Point by Matthew Kelly. It is a great program geared toward middle school age students to help them encounter Christ and to recognize the moments when Christ encounters us. One of the great things about this program is that you can watch the same videos we will be watching at home. It is free on the internet and we highly encourage you as a family to watch these videos. you can find the link below.
The second thing we are doing this year is opening up the Catholic Virtues that put into practice all the good things that will help us to become the person God created us to be. Virtues give us the habits that will allow us to use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit when they are received at Confirmation.
The third thing that we hope to have is a large group of parents and young adults helping as mentors during the year. They offer a great amount of wisdom, not because they have done everything perfect, but because they are continuing to pursue the Lord in their lives. We not only hope to form the moral and theological understanding of the youth, but also give them some encouragement to live it out in their life.
The last think we want you to know about our program is that we know that the parents are the primary educators in the faith. Parents, if they come to church or not are actively giving witness to their children how to live their faith. Because of this, and the great success, of our Family Formation program, we are going to have monthly parent meetings for all of those that have children in Confirmation classes. The topics covered are things like a phenominal new book called "Return, How to Draw Your Children Back to the Church" by Brandon Vogt. Please see the schedule below for all the meeting dates.
