Top 10 Declamations

For those unfamilar with Declamations, a Declamation is a public speaking event where students deliver a portion or portions of a speech previously delivered. The goal of a declamation is to convey a message with clarity, emotion, and persuasiveness.

The message should be conveyed credibly and convincingly as if the words were the speakers own. This event is an interpretation, not an impersonation.

Transfiguration Catholic School 7th and 8th grade students present a declamation as part of Reading and Communications class.  Our students are expected to speak well. Students work on speaking techniques in class and at home in preparation for speaking in front of a large audience.

Students are judged on:

  • accuracy - recites speech as originally given.
  • presentation style - the speaker should convey the message in a sincere, honest and realistic manner.
  • vocal delivery - the speaker should be articulate, fluent, and use    variety. ( pitch , rate, pausing, phrasing, stress and tone).
  • physical delivery - the speaker should be physically open to the audience and use body language that invites the audience into the world of the declaimer.
